STONE’S THROW AWAY

It is generally accepted that one of the great art jewels of the city of Florence is Michelangelo’s majestic sculpture of David.  I’m glad that we actually took a guided tour in Florence that included a trip to the Accademia to see this great sculpture and to hear the guide provide such a multi-layered historical and aesthetic description of how the art came to be. …

Poetry

Sentinel Stone

A fortress of matter seals unborn destiny
A guard stands blindly watching and waiting…

Dark light pregnant with time and space
Dreams in death so deep and daring…

Echoes of a past not yet conceived
Both fallow and fertilized, humming in silence…

Like a borrowed grave in a nameless new garden
Death tosses and turns in restless slumber…

What force could awaken such an impersonal landscape
With depth of complexity buried within?
